    Girona incorporates big data and AI in its campsites as a test before expanding across Catalonia

    Campsites in Girona are immersed in a pioneering project to incorporate big data and artificial intelligence (AI), which will serve as a pilot test before expanding this model to similar accommodations throughout Catalonia.

    According to the Girona Campsite Association, which is promoting this initiative under the name Smartcamp, the aim is to develop a platform for the management and analysis of the data generated by the various establishments.

    The objective is to improve management and competitiveness through digital technologies, advance service excellence, enhance the customer experience, and make progress in sustainability, water resource efficiency, and safety.

    The Smart Camp project, promoted by the Girona Campsite Association to turn Girona into a smart camping tourism destination by leveraging Big Data and Artificial Intelligence technologies, has received the CETT Alimara award in the “Through Digitalization” category.

    The award was presented last night in Barcelona during the “Nit dels Alimara”. The jury noted that the initiative stands out for its “clear commitment to digitalization and sustainability in a sector that has historically required modernization.” The Smart Camp project focuses on improving the quality and image of campsites through the implementation of technological solutions that reinforce clients’ environmental awareness. Its differentiating value lies in going beyond recycling, promoting a comprehensive model of sustainability and raising the industry standard.

    The award was collected by the president of the Girona Campsite Association, Miquel Gotanegra, who expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the sector’s commitment to technology as “key to remaining leaders and benchmarks in innovation in Europe.”
    “With this project, we bring technological innovation within reach of all campsites,” he added.
